The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, formerly known as Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS), is an industry standard qualification for those teaching in the post-16 sector. This qualification will assist individuals training to become a teacher. This particular Level 5 teaching qualification also allows you to apply for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status, enabling you to become a teacher in state schools in the UK. All units within this DET course are internally assessed by our qualified assessors and externally verified by the awarding organisation. The assessment takes the form of written assignments, detailed guidance for which will be provided by the tutor once you’re enrolled on our VLE. Practical requirements of this course include 100 hours of logged teaching practice and at least 8 observations (one hour each), which can be satisfied either through recording your teaching sessions or having your assessor observe your teaching sessions.
This programme is fully taught with live lectures supplemented by interactive learning options. You will be provided a structured time-table as you would receive in a face-to-face college. All lectures are recorded for flexibility.

You must meet the following minimum criteria to take this course:
• Reading and communication skills should be adequate to meet the requirements of the training
• You do not have a criminal background which prevents you working, with young people or vulnerable adults, as a teacher
• Hold a relevant qualification at a level above that of your learners; ideally at least Level 3 in your area of specialism
• Minimum core of literacy, language, numeracy and ICT
• Learners taking this course must have access to suitable teaching placement
• You must be at least 19 years of age to enrol on this course.
Successful completion of this teaching certificate online enables you to enhance your career profile and apply for QTLS status. It means you can be employed as a state school teacher in the 14+ sector (for GCSE and A-Level students).
