BTEC HN Computing

BTEC Higher National (HND) Computing

Year 1: Level 4 (HNC) – 120 Credits
Year 2: Level 5 (HND) – 120 Credits

Intensive: 1 Year inc. Level 4 and 5. 240 Credits.

This route is only open to students with exceptional ability and is judged on a case by case basis.

All 3 of the above options are full-time programmes.

Assessment is through practical assignments with no exams – to more accurately reflect the real working environment. Through this engaging approach to learning, you will be ready to face the challenges of the modern business world armed with the hands-on skills employers demand.

This programme is fully taught with live lectures supplemented by interactive learning options. You will be provided a structured time-table as you would receive in a face-to-face college. All lectures are recorded for flexibility.

FEE SCHEDULE:

ONLINE ROUTE:
Standard Route: £6000 per year.
Intensive 1 Year Route: £10,000 in total.

Fees are inclusive of examination charges. A £100 application fee is charged seperately.

Standard Route: £7500 per year.
Intensive 1 Year Route: £12,500 in total.

This course will allow you to develop a range of specialist technical skills, enabling you to meet the demands of employers in the computing sector and to adapt to a constantly changing world. The programme will cover a broad range of computing topics that may be encountered in modern business. You will benefit from our excellent cutting-edge computing facilities, small student groups and extremely supportive, industry-experienced teaching staff. By completing this course you will achieve an industry-recognised HND, which will enhance your career prospects and your employability. During the course you may also have the opportunity to gain additional professional IT qualifications with further study.

The course will cover a broad-based overview of computing, which will allow you to develop wide-ranging skills and knowledge. You will gain academic, technical and professional training, leading to the skills necessary to design, implement, support, evaluate or manage IT systems in a vast range of industries, with the aim of gaining interesting and well paid employment, or continuing your education to BSc (Hons) level.

You will complete the HNC with one year of full-time study, and could then choose to continue to a HND with a further year of study.

At Level 5 (Year 2) students will be given an opportunity to chose a specialism or remain on a generic course. Options will including software programming, security and network engineering.

Module listing and examination board can be changed without prior notice. Examination boards will change in exceptional circumstnaces and alternatives will be equal in weight in accordance to level and OfQual.

PATHWAYS:

Computing (General), Data Analytics, Network Engineering, Cyber Security.

Availability of specific pathways is subject to demand.

 

The minimum age to register for this programme is 18.

Prospective students should note that the following entrance qualifications are required for those wishing to undertake this programme:

MIC will need to review the profile of qualifications and/or experience held by applicants, considering whether this profile shows an ability to progress to a higher level qualification.

For students who have recently been in education, the entry profile is likely to include one of the following:

  • A BTEC Level 3 qualification in Business
  • A GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject. This profile is likely to be supported by GCSE grades at A* to C (or equivalent and/or 9 to 4 (or equivalent) in subjects such as maths and English
  • Other related Level 3 qualifications
  • An Access to Higher Education Certificate awarded by an approved further education institution Related work experience
  • An international equivalent of the above.
  • GCSE English for home students.

English language requirements for international students

In order for students to be successful on this qualification an appropriate command of the English language is required as both the tuition and assessments are conducted in English.

All students who are non-native English speakers and who have not undertaken their final two years of schooling in English, can demonstrate capability in English at a standard equivalent to the levels identified below, before being recruited to the programme where the programme is both taught and assessed in English:

  • Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level B2
  • PTE 51
  • IELTS 5.5; Reading and Writing must be at 5.5
  • or equivalent.

It is up to the centre to decide what proof will be necessary to evidence individual student proficiency.

The Pearson BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Computing provides its learner the realistic and appropriate career-related opportunities worldwide for 21st-century employment markets.

Students who successfully completed Pearson BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Computing qualification can progress onto Degree Top-Up programme at many Universities such as University of Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire New University, Teesside University, University of Sunderland, Buckinghamshire New University, University of Huddersfield, London Metropolitan University, Oxford Brookes University, University of Gloucestershire, University of Worcester, University of South Wales, etc.
